Caguas, Puerto Rico
Caguas Puerto Rico is known as "El Valle del Turabo" (Turabo Valley) and "La
Ciudad Criolla" (Creole City) and has about 145,000 habitants. It is located 20 miles (32 km) (forty five minutes to an hour by car) from
San Juan and 40 miles (64 km) (an about an hour by car) from Ponce.
Originally called 'San Sebastián del Piñal de Caguax', Caguas derives its name from a local
Indian chief (Caguax) who was an early Christian convert. It is a principal city of the San Juan-Caguas-Guaynabo Metropolitan Statistical Area.
It is now the largest urban centre in Puerto Rico's interior. The town’s economic activities
include diamond cutting, tobacco processing, and the manufacture of leather goods, glass and plastic products,
electronic equipment, clothing, and bedding.
In addition to one of the great plazas of Puerto Rico, Santiago Palmer Plaza,
Caguas offers a major performing arts center and a number of museums. 
The Botanical Garden of Caguas offers a great relaxation environment making an ideal visitors
area to locals and tourists from every part of the world. Visit the botanical garden and be ready to take photos
which emphases in historic values to the historic region. Opened from Thursday to Sunday from 10:00AM to 4:00PM.
For a demonstration of hand-rolled cigars, visit the Tobacco Museum Herminio Torres Grillo, located at Ramón Emeterio Betances 87 and Luis
Padial intersection. Opened Wednesday through Sunday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM you can watch
workers enrolling and processing tobacco, an old century's tradition in the region.
