El Condado, Puerto Rico
El Condado is the upscale resort area of the city and thus
plays home to a fairly large number of luxury hotels. This is a area of fancy hotels, casinos, nightclubs,
restaurants and chic boutiques. The heart of the tourism area stretches down Ashford Avenue from the Hilton to the
Marriott and Ambassador hotels.
Home to many fine restaurants and high-level boutiques such as Cartier, Louis Vuitton and Gucci, the Parque de la
Gran Ventana al Mar and its fountain has become a popular meeting place to watch the evening settle in.
El Condado's entertainment is centered on three main activities: shopping, the justly popular
Condado Beach, and the casinos.
El Condado it is also the most sought-after and prestigious residential area in San Juan and all of Puerto Rico. Maybe the true center of Condado is the park
at Magdalena Avenue and Cervantes Street.
Local residents use this park as their outdoor salon and you're welcome to join in to get a taste of local life.
Sophisticated bistros and restaurants draw lively crowds at night.
And the beach is always popular. Interestingly, Condado's hotels don't follow the high-end trend; you can find
great deals that put you in the heart of San Juan's ritziest neighborhood.
The Laguna de El Condado or Condado Lagoon is one of San Juan's most beautiful and familiar
landmarks. It stands between three districts: Old San Juan/Puerta de
Tierra, Miramar, and Condado.
The lagoon is particularly loved by those who practice kayaking and several other water sports. There are also
kayak rentals available on the perimeter of the lagoon. If you decide to partake in this sport, note that the rentals are often quite busy on
the weekends.
El Condado was once known as the Riviera of the Caribbean, enjoying a voguish reputation in
the 1920s. This beach-bordering district is wedged between the Atlantic Ocean and several large inland bodies of
water, including the lake like Los Corozos and Lagunas Condado.
For conventions, The Puerto Rico Convention Center is the largest in the Caribbean and the most
technologically advanced throughout both the Caribbean and Latin America.
Considered an architectural celebration of Puerto Rico’s many distinctive natural
attributes, design architects for the PRCC have aimed to construct a facility that provides delegates with the distinctively
“techno-tropic,” yet natural feel of the Island.
